Learn more about the Nutcracker

Ballet Nj will present its Twenty-Sixth annual production of "The Nutcracker" on November 28, 29, December 4, 5 and 6 at the Voorhees Schools Theatre on Holly Oak Drive in Voorhees, N.J. South Jersey's only critically reviewed production of the Tchaikovsky classic will feature Eric Otto, formerly of American Ballet Theatre on November 28 and 29 as the Cavalier, with Guest Artists of the Pennsylvania Ballet.

This year's production will be high-lighted by Ballet Nj's first annual "Alumni Weekend". Recent graduates of Ballet Nj currently training in University Dance Programs have been invited to perform on November 28 and 29. Graduates scheduled to appear are: Danielle Martin and Katrine Vorsa of Butler University, Jordan Martin of Indiana University, Amy Motson of the Hartt School, Katherine Scaffidi of the North Carolina University of the Arts and Jack Matthews of William and Mary. Gallagher states:"Our audience has followed the progress of these dancers over the years and I know many will be as excited as I am to see them once more on our stage."

As the cornerstone of Ballet Nj's season all elements of the "Nutcracker" must shine. As soon as the curtain goes down, the costume staff under the direction of Rosemary Gorman begins to determine which costumes to replace. This year’s production will feature new costumes in the Party Scene, Snow Scene and Act 2. "The costume staff has been working hard since last year", says Mr. Gallagher."When you come to our show you will see bright new costumes looking like they just come out of the box." He concludes," Whether you are seeing our show for the first time or the twentieth time, I can assure you, that when the curtain goes up the "Nutcracker" will shine like a new diamond".

Additional Guest Artists will be: Max Baud, Andre Vytoptov and Tyler Galster of the Pennsylvania Ballet and Independent Artists Rick Callender and Julio Alegria. Dancing the role of the Snow Queen will be: Maura Simone, Sophie Meyers and Maggie Matthews. Sharing the role of the Dew Drop will be: Jen Henkel, Allison Jefferey and Ms. Matthews. Gianna Dibartolomeo, Giselle Baillargeon, Saki Morimoto and Jenna Galezniak will alternate in the role of the Doll with Allison Frazier and Katherine Lebedine sharing the role of Lead Spanish. Appearing as Lead Arabian will be: Isabella Meyers, Allison Piccone and Abby Rubin with the Lead Marzipan being danced by: Johnna Galen and Allison Jefferey. Michael Matthews will dance in: Chinese, Russian and will perform as the Soldier Doll.
